MARILYN MONROE

Marilyn Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer who became a cultural icon and one of the most enduring symbols of Hollywood glamour. Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, Monroe was raised in a series of foster homes and later married at the age of 16. She began her career as a model, and after being signed to a contract by Twentieth Century Fox, she made her film debut in 1947's "Dangerous Years."

Monroe's early film roles were mostly minor and she struggled to find her footing in Hollywood. However, her career began to take off in 1950 when she starred in "All About Eve" and "The Asphalt Jungle," and she quickly became known for her sultry screen presence and blonde bombshell good looks. In 1953, Monroe starred in the romantic comedy "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" alongside Jane Russell, and the film became one of her most enduring classics. She followed this up with a series of successful films, including "How to Marry a Millionaire" and "The Seven Year Itch," which solidified her status as a major star.

In addition to her acting career, Monroe was also known for her tumultuous personal life. She was married three times, to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio and to playwrights Arthur Miller and Milton Greene, and she had a number of high-profile affairs, including one with President John F. Kennedy. Monroe struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse throughout her life, and she died at the age of 36 on August 5, 1962, from an overdose of barbiturates.

Despite her untimely death, Monroe's legacy has lived on, and she remains one of the most iconic figures in Hollywood history. She was known for her beauty and sensuality, and her image continues to be widely used in popular culture. She was also a talented actress, and her performances in films such as "Some Like It Hot" and "The Misfits" showed her range and depth. Monroe's life may have been troubled, but she left behind a lasting legacy as one of the most enduring symbols of Hollywood glamour and stardom.
